YouTube has become a popular website for those seeking laughs and sharing music and personal messages about their outlooks on everything from the news to pop culture. While there are millions of videos featuring stupid human tricks and music videos, there are also millions of educational videos for children and adults alike that are as simple to find as putting a keyword into their search bar.
For your children, there are videos available on any given subject from sign language to entertaining, but information rich songs and activities. My wife and I have spent hours surfing YouTube with our children in search of interesting and fun videos that will teach them interesting new facts or unique ways to learn simple educational concepts, from the alphabet to math. The kids are always engaged and often walk away having learned something practical in a way that books or articles just can't communicate.
As for adults, the sheer number of how-to videos is mind boggling. When my wife and I want to learn how to do a small home improvement project, find a cool recipe or figure out a piece of computer software, we often wind up checking out YouTube. While most the information could be found in a written article, learning how to do something by watching it actually taking place can turn something that seems complex in print into a much simpler, more manageable task when we can see it being done with our own eyes.
For visual learners, YouTube can be an invaluable, free, online resource. New videos are being uploaded to the site every day and the variety of topics and information available is unbelievable.
